Bitcoin, Ethereum and HYPE Head and Shoulders Patterns Put Lower Buy Zones in Focus
For several weeks, the crypto market followed a clean, constructive rhythm: push up, consolidate sideways, push up again. That stair-step structure produced bull flag after bull flag on both Bitcoin and Ethereum, and it gave buyers every reason to stay aggressive.
Last week's selling interrupted that rhythm. The most recent flag on Bitcoin failed to resolve higher, and the price action that followed has started to take a different shape. Across Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Hyperliquid, head and shoulders structures are emerging, raising the possibility that the recent advance is giving way to a broader correction.
The thesis is straightforward. The current bounce is more likely to be a right shoulder than the start of a new leg higher, and the better risk-reward entries in crypto probably sit below current prices. Bitcoin will decide how far that move extends.
Bitcoin: Resistance Near $82,000 Caps the Bounce
Bitcoin's structure can be read a few ways. One interpretation shows a head and shoulders that has already formed, with price now retracing to its neckline. The weakness in that read is the right shoulder, which is shallow and less convincing than a textbook pattern. Another read is a developing bear flag: a down move followed by sideways consolidation that tends to resolve lower.
Lawton favors a larger, more symmetrical head and shoulders pattern that has yet to complete. In that scenario, Bitcoin could pull back, stage another rally toward overhead resistance, and ultimately form the right shoulder before a larger decline.
What anchors that view is the supply overhead. The area around $82,000 marks the highest point of the previous push and is lined with multiple high pivots. That cluster of prior selling explains why the latest rally stalled where it did, and it should continue to act as resistance on any retest.
If Bitcoin rolls over, $76,000 is the first area of major support. The more attractive accumulation zone sits lower, near $70,000 to $71,000, which also aligns with the measured move of the larger head and shoulders pattern toward roughly $71,000. Buying into resistance at $82,000 offers poor risk-reward. Buying into confluent support near $71,000 offers much better.
Ethereum: A Cleaner Head and Shoulders Toward $2,000
Ethereum followed the same stair-step path before stalling at key resistance near $2,800. Unlike Bitcoin, Ethereum has a more clearly defined head and shoulders structure, with a recognizable left shoulder, head, and right shoulder. The pattern favors further downside, although confirmation of the breakdown remains important.
The measured move from that pattern points back toward the $2,000 region. That level carries weight on several fronts. It is a major psychological round number, and it has repeatedly served as a pivot in Ethereum's price history. When a measured-move target lines up with a historically respected level, the confluence gives traders an additional reason to watch for a reaction at that level.
That makes anything under $2,000 the preferred buy zone for Ethereum. The pattern alone does not guarantee that outcome, however. A follow-through move on Ethereum likely depends on Bitcoin selling off as well. Bitcoin remains the directional filter for the entire asset class.
XRP: Broken Trend Line, Defined Support
XRP does not show a classic head and shoulders, because price did push to a marginal new high near $1.70. What it does show is a break of a key upsloping trend line on the latest decline, which shifts the near-term structure from constructive to corrective.
The most recent drop found support just above the September 16 pivot low. The $1.25 region is the first area to watch for support. If selling continues, the dense prior price action near $1.15 makes that area another potential support zone, and anything below $1.15 defines the preferred buy range.
Hyperliquid (HYPE): Watching for a Larger Pattern to Complete
HYPE is testing several trend lines, and like Bitcoin, its chart can be drawn into multiple smaller head and shoulders formations. At minimum, trend lines are breaking. The more meaningful setup would be a larger, more balanced pattern, with the recent low serving as the armpit, followed by a move higher and then a decline to complete the right shoulder.
That pattern is not confirmed and depends on price action over the coming sessions. If it does complete, the measured move points toward roughly $54, which coincides with several prior low pivots. That confluence makes $54 the potential buy level for a bounce.

What to Watch Next: Earnings and Risk Appetite
The next catalyst may not come from crypto at all. Upcoming earnings from Meta, Netflix, Texas Instruments, and several semiconductor names are potential catalysts. If those results disappoint and the Nasdaq-100 and broader equity market sell off, capital tends to rotate out of risk assets, and Bitcoin and Ethereum sit firmly in that category.
A rejection near $82,000 on Bitcoin, particularly alongside weakness in tech equities, would strengthen the bearish scenario. A subsequent neckline breakdown would provide more convincing confirmation of the larger head and shoulders pattern. A decisive break and hold above that resistance cluster would invalidate it and suggest the stair-step uptrend is resuming.
Conclusion: Let the Levels Come to You
The shift from bull flags to head and shoulders patterns does not mean the broader crypto cycle is over. It means the near-term risk-reward has changed. Chasing a bounce into heavy resistance offers less attractive risk-reward than waiting for price to approach established support. The opportunity improves when the entry level is better defined, even though the outcome remains uncertain.
The process remains the same across every asset here: identify the structure, define where supply and demand sit, and let Bitcoin confirm direction before committing capital. Patterns can fail, and every level is a probability, not a promise. Discipline means acting on the setup when it arrives, not anticipating it before it does.
