Unemployment Report Data Analysis

The Unemployment Report shows how many people are fully unemployed. To be unemployed you must be actively looking for work or you are not counted. This metric does not take into account people will part-time jobs or those that have given up on looking for work.

The chart above shows the unemployed percentage since 1999. Note that in every recession (the gray strips), unemployment spikes dramatically. Just prior to a recession, there is a small uptick in unemployment. This is happening now.

In February, the unemployment rate was 3.90%. The report for March comes out on April 5th, 2024. Estimates are for it to stay at 3.90%.
