My Trading Game Plan Revealed - 09/14/2026: AI Warnings Trigger Tech Rotation as Fed, 10-Year Yield and Oil Test Key Levels

Gareth Soloway game plan recap for September 14, 2026 covering AI warnings, Fed rate decision, and key market levels

The Federal Reserve meets Wednesday, AI stocks are repricing after a new round of safety concerns, and crude oil pushed above $104 Monday morning.

Gareth Soloway's read on My Trading Game Plan Revealed puts one market above the rest: the 10-year Treasury yield.

The rate decision may command the headlines, but with markets already assigning high odds to a 25-basis-point hike, the more important information may come from what happens afterward. The 10-year yield is pressing back toward 5%, crude is feeding inflation pressure, and the S&P 500 is still holding the technical support that has kept Gareth's broader bias bullish.

That makes this week's framework relatively clean. Watch whether yields confirm the pressure building underneath equities.

The Fed Decision May Matter Less Than What Comes After It

Wednesday's rate decision is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET, but Gareth's focus is on the press conference that follows.

His reasoning is straightforward. If a quarter-point hike is already heavily reflected in Fed Funds futures, the hike itself contains relatively little new information. The forward-looking signal comes from how the Fed frames the meetings ahead.

As Gareth put it:

“The key is the market already knows that. When it's 87%, it's already priced in.”

A message suggesting the Fed can pause after Wednesday would remove some of the pressure markets have been pricing into yields. Keeping the door open to additional hikes would do the opposite.

That matters because the bond market is already approaching its own technical decision point.

The 10-Year Near 5% Is the Bigger Confirmation Signal

The 10-year Treasury yield pushed toward 5% Monday morning, an area Gareth has been watching closely.

The exact prior high sits near 5.02%. Gareth is less concerned about an intraday move through that level than a sustained daily close above it.

That distinction matters. A brief pierce can still turn into rejection. A closing breakout would suggest yields are beginning to accept territory above one of the most important resistance areas on the chart.

Gareth's concern is what that would transmit into equities. Higher Treasury yields raise the hurdle rate for risk assets and tighten financial conditions at the same time equities are already confronting stretched valuations and renewed uncertainty around technology leadership.

A close above 5.02% would therefore carry more information than simply seeing the yield touch 5%.

Crude Is Feeding the Yield Story

Oil is one reason the bond-market setup deserves attention.

WTI crude pushed above $104 Monday morning and ran directly into a long-term resistance trend line containing several prior pivots. Gareth is watching that area for a potential rejection and disclosed that he entered a short position as price tested the resistance.

The setup is technical, but the macro transmission matters too.

If crude continues higher, the inflation implications make it harder for yields to retreat. If oil rejects the trend line and begins pulling back, some of that pressure could ease.

That makes crude more than a standalone commodity setup this week. It is feeding directly into the same yield framework that could determine whether equity support holds.

The S&P 500 Still Has Its Line in the Sand

Despite Monday morning's weakness, Gareth has not abandoned his bullish technical bias on the broader market.

The important support area remains roughly 7,570 to 7,575.

As long as the S&P 500 holds that trend line, the larger bullish structure remains intact on his chart. A decisive break below 7,570 would weaken that read and shift the posture toward neutral, with roughly 7,400 becoming the next important area underneath.

Below 7,400, the structure would deteriorate much more materially.

That hierarchy is useful because it separates volatility from a genuine technical change. A gap lower is not enough by itself. The market has to lose the level that has been carrying the trend.

AI Is Creating Rotation, Not Yet a Broad-Market Breakdown

The other major development Monday was inside technology.

New warnings about the pace and risks of artificial intelligence development put pressure on several companies tied to the AI infrastructure trade, while some software names caught a bid.

That rotation is worth watching because the two groups have spent much of the past year on opposite sides of the same AI thesis.

Hardware and infrastructure companies benefited from expectations of enormous spending on chips, data centers, and compute capacity. Traditional software companies were often treated as potential losers if increasingly capable AI models threatened existing products and business models.

If investors begin assigning a higher probability to slower AI development or greater regulation, that relationship can shift at the margin. Infrastructure expectations cool while some of the companies previously viewed as most exposed to AI displacement regain relative appeal.

The key word is rotation. Monday's move does not by itself establish that the AI investment cycle is over.

Gold and Silver Need Confirmation

Precious metals are also approaching important technical decisions.

Gareth is watching potential head-and-shoulders structures in both gold and silver. The important part is not the pattern's appearance alone. It is whether price actually confirms beneath the neckline.

For gold, a confirmed breakdown would produce a measured-move projection near $3,950. Silver's comparable projection sits near $55.50 if its neckline gives way on a closing basis.

Those are projections, not automatic destinations.

A break that quickly reverses and reclaims the neckline would weaken the bearish setup and could create pressure on traders positioned for continuation. Until the neckline confirms, the patterns remain setups rather than completed breakdowns.

Bitcoin Is Showing the Opposite Structure

Bitcoin's chart is currently giving Gareth a different signal.

Rather than pressing into a bearish reversal pattern, Bitcoin is consolidating after a strong advance in what he views as a developing bull flag.

The important support zone sits around $76,000 to $75,500.

Holding that area keeps the consolidation consistent with the bullish structure. A sustained break below $75,500 would materially weaken the pattern and open the door to a deeper retracement.

The level matters more than the label. As long as support survives, Bitcoin is digesting the prior advance rather than clearly reversing it.

Three Stock Levels on Gareth's Radar

Monday's volatility also produced several individual-stock levels worth watching.

Lumentum (LITE): Gareth identified approximately $820 as a prior pivot area that could produce a reaction if the selloff reaches it. The significance comes from prior price memory at the level rather than an assumption that price must bounce.

Nvidia (NVDA): A gap-fill area near $210 is the first level on Gareth's radar, while the larger daily support sits closer to $200. Holding that lower trend line would preserve the broader technical setup. A confirmed break would weaken it materially.

Apple (AAPL): Gareth is watching approximately $338, where a gap fill could intersect with resistance. Rather than chasing price into the level, his focus is on whether the market reacts once it gets there.

The common thread is patience. The level comes first. The reaction determines whether the setup actually develops.

Bottom Line

Wednesday's Fed meeting will get the attention, but the bond market may provide the cleaner signal.

The S&P 500 still has support around 7,570. Crude is testing major resistance above $104. The 10-year yield is pressing into 5%, with approximately 5.02% marking the more important closing threshold on Gareth's chart.

Those markets are connected.

If yields reject 5% while crude rolls over and the S&P holds support, the broader bullish structure remains intact despite the noise around AI and the Fed.

If the 10-year begins accepting territory above 5.02% while the S&P loses 7,570, the technical picture changes.

That is the framework for the week. The Fed supplies the catalyst. The charts determine whether the market actually confirms it.
